SANTANDER: Help to Save the Life of Cesar Tamayo, President of ASOGRAS

CSN Urgent Action List

On the 16th of March, 2010, the President of the Agrarian Association of Santander (ASOGRAS), Cesar Tamayo, received a stamped envelope under his office door in the city of Bucaramanga. The message contained a clear death threat. The threat was signed by the Black Eagles and the Rastrojos, two Paramilitary organizations in the region, that were born out of the process of demobilizing paramilitary groups.
Cesar had been threatened many times. Since 2004, ASOGRAS has worked for the defense of land and territorial rights, as well as for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law. Since its foundation in 2004, ASOGRAS has suffered the assassination of six of its members, the displacement of twenty-one members, and ten death threats.
CSN asks our members and subscribers to send messages to the email addresses listed below, demanding protection of Cesar Tamayo’s life, and calling for an immediate investigation into the origins and authors of the threats with the hopes of bringing them to justice.
